When I'm not blogging, brunching or (let's be honest) buying things I probably don't need, I'm looking for ways to discover new music to add to the soundtrack to my life. I love how easy Spotify makes it to find out what your friends and favorite curators (like Jack Matthew and Connor Franta) are listening to. Sharing music is such a great way to connect with people on a more intimate level. With that in mind, I'm excited to start sharing a new playlist each month (entitled Musique du Mois or Music of the Month) containing recent releases and tracks that I love to evoke a particular vibe for that month. Here is Volume One of Musique du Mois for September 2015.
For me, September is a month all about changing colors. Sunsets start to come earlier in the evening during September, signaling the end of summer. With tracks like "Gold," "Little White Lies," "Technicolour Beat" and Halsey's hit "Colors," I wanted to show how colors are literally and figuratively part of our lives.
I'm going through a lot of changes this month, like moving from Portland back to Seattle. I've created a lot of memories in Portland, both good and bad. Making amazing new friends like Corey (who exposed me to "Here" by Alessia Cara), exploring the city and dancing in clubs to songs like "Smoke Filled Room" by Mako are moments I won't soon forget. But I also made some foolish decisions that I'm still reeling over now.
The lyrics of "FOOLS" by Troye Sivan and "Illusion" by Zedd really hit me hard, making me realize that I fell for someone in Portland that would only hurt me. And he did hurt me, just like the long list of fools before me. I'm happy to be moving on this month, and songs like "Bridges" by Broods, "Pity Party" by Melanie Martinez and "Love Myself" by Hailee Steinfeld are helping me do just that.
