For the first time, I'll be going to Coachella this year. I've taken a lot of time to deliberately pack items that will serve me well in the desert oasis located just outside of Palm Springs. From the obvious necessities, like premium sunscreen, to the obscure choices, like a slimmed-down cardholder, there are plenty of accessories that will prove to be as functional as they are fashionable this festival season.
h&m SUNGLASSES • clinique SUNSCREEN • urban outfitters CARD CASE • american express BANDANA
I bought three different pairs of sunglasses for Coachella, all relatively inexpensive so I wouldn't feel too guilty about letting them get knocked around while enjoying the music. You can find my almost triangular-shaped sunnies at H&M in the women's section, which holds a treasure trove of unique and edgy lenses that I would never find in the men's section. My Clinique Pep Start Daily UV Protector will serve as the base layer to additional sunscreen on my face. This blue card case (also found in the women's section, of Urban Outfitters this time) is perfect for holding a few credit cards and an ID, which is all I'll really need while at the festival. Unexpectedly, American Express sent me a goodie box in preparation for Coachella that had a one-of-a-kind bandana in it. Bandanas are ideal for the desert as the air there is dry and dusty.
h&m loves coachella COLLECTION
I've always been a fan of H&M's collaborations with Coachella, even though this will only be my first year attending the event that inspired this line. Festival fashion has evolved to have less of a bohemian vibe and more of an urban meets rock n' roll edge to it that I appreciate even more. The pieces in this collection are just as much mementos for concertgoers as they are items that can be worn into the spring/summer seasons with attitude and pride. I simply could not say no to the collection's tie-dye shirt which included an iconic design on the back.
Three days of non-stop music, booze and dancing under the Indio sun is hard on your body, not to mention your hair. Wearing a stylish logo hat not only shows support for your favorite band (or brand), it keeps you from having to re-style your hair a second or even a third time throughout the weekend. A hat also helps keep more of the sun's rays off of your well-sunscreened face.
A backpack makes it easy to free your hands and pockets of holding all the items you'll need at the festival. I love this Dickies backpack because it won't become a burden to carry around due to its small size. You can personalize it too by adding enamel pins from Pintrill. Pins also make a great addition to a denim jacket or basic tee. Patterned, loud (but still lightweight) socks are an inexpensive way to add even more flare to your outdoor outfit.
These last two items are some of the most essential festival accessories one can have: a water bottle and a pair of durable shoes. I've recently become obsessed with LIFEWTR after seeing the beautiful artwork that adorns their bottles. Reusable water bottles from BKR and S'well will come in handy as Coachella (and any other musical festival) has water stations where you can stay perfectly hydrated throughout the day. Converse make for ideal festival footwear as the shoes are designed to take a beating, including the occasional moments where fellow attendees will step on your feet (and it will happen).
