Without a doubt, summer is my favorite season. There's something about feeling the sun on your face, walking on the beach and breathing in that fresh ocean air that makes you feel so young and alive. I can remember all of my summers so vividly, each one chock-full of adventures and some of my fondest memories. I'll be turning twenty-four this summer and that fact has me contemplating my youth and what it means to be an adult. The older I get, the more I discover what I want and don't want, especially when it comes to relationships. The cuts on this installment of Musique du Mois are all about youth, summer love and feeling alive in a way that only the summer can bring out.
I'm currently obsessed with Connor Franta's Common Culture compilations. Connor, a YouTuber and online entrepreneur, curates some of the coolest tracks from up-and-coming independent artists and shares them in beautifully designed volumes. My favorite tracks from his most recent compilations include "Lust" by MVRX and "No Sleeping Now" by Goldchain.
Songs like "Teenage Craze" by KLOE and "Is It Love" by 3LAU accurately describe the maelstrom of emotions that are felt when you enter a new relationship and aren't sure if the love is real or something that will end when summer does.
Tracks that really embody the youthfulness of summer are the infectious "Can't Stop The Feeling" by Justin Timberlake and "One Dance" by Drake. I also have an inkling that Rihanna and Calvin Harris' electric new collaboration, "This Is What You Came For", is going to blow up.
As another summer quickly comes around the corner, I'm more than ready to live it up, enjoy my youth and grow up (just a little bit though).
