There are few things I love more than dessert (brunch is definitely up there, but you already knew that). I love a cute cupcake or ice cream shop just as much as the next sweet aficionado, but there's something about Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery that truly—dare I say—takes the cake.
Hot Cakes, which is tucked away on a cozy Capitol Hill corner, has a natural aesthetic where greenery and wood compliment each other effortlessly. Their extensive menu doesn't just include delicious molten lava cakes that they're famous for, but also savory small plates, milkshakes, cocktails and even crème brûlée. When my friend Morgan and I walked in, we were astounded by the array of options, making our ultimate dessert decision a tough one.
We eventually chose the Peanut Butter Cup: a peanut butter filled dark chocolate cake with fudge, caramel and vanilla ice cream. The decadent cake didn't leave us disappointed in the slightest. Each bite of molten chocolate paired beautifully with cool ice cream and black Blue Star coffee. A treat this rich definitely deserved to be shared with a lucky someone, as Morgan and I found ourselves enjoying every morsel at the most leisurely of paces. In a space as chic and comfortable as Hot Cakes, you won't find yourself in a rush to leave.
