There are some items in menswear that never go out of style: a leather jacket, a pair of dark wash jeans and a cotton tee. A functional, fashionable wardrobe starts with those basics, the items that consistently build a perfect outfit from the ground up. This winter, I'm introducing more white to my closet. Sure black has been my go-to shade of chic in the winter, but I've overlooked the numerous ways white can brighten up dreary days in the Pacific Northwest.
Since white garments can be particularly difficult to keep pristine, I'm not opposed to purchasing a larger collection of less expensive basics in that color. In fact, it's an ingenious idea to own similar items at different price points so you always have an option for every occasion. A H&M crewneck is ideal for a casual outing with friends where you wouldn't be heartbroken if it was hit with a splash of red wine. An intricate cable knit from J.Crew is better reserved for a cozy date or a day at the art museum. A modern sweater from Toast can be worn comfortably at the office, just be cautious with that morning cup of coffee.
