Making a New Year's resolution is horribly cliché, but making a concentrated effort to upgrade your style this year is an idea I can definitely get behind. I'm challenging myself to grow up a bit and embrace sophisticated menswear in my daily life instead of just on special occasions. Sometimes I feel like young millennials face some criticism for being too casual in the way they dress and I want to eradicate that perception. I've always known that it doesn't require much to take an everyday outfit up a notch on the sophistication meter, so now it's time to finally try doing so.
everlane SWEATSHIRT • h&m SHIRT • bullhead CHINOS

These khaki-colored chinos and simple navy button down make up the base layer of this ensemble. While combining those two pieces is acceptable enough, layering a sweater and a scarf is what really gives this outfit an everyday elegance. For additional warmth, I put on a black coat from Forever 21. This multi-colored scarf (or écharpe) that I received as a gift from Hudson's Bay Company in Canada is the perfect way to catch someone's eye.
As I've said in the past, a strong accessory can really make a difference and pull a look together in a unique way. While you won't be hearing me say "New Year, new me" anytime soon, you will find me at Nordstrom more often to refine my wardrobe with polished pieces.
