In a city as diverse as San Francisco, it's easy to find cuisine from cultures around the world. Just go to North Beach for amazing Italian food and Chinatown for authentic Asian fare. One of The City's not so hidden gems is La Boulange, a collection of French artisan cafés.
La Boulange recently partnered with Starbucks to offer a separate line of pastries that captures the charm, quality and authenticity of these local bakeries. I visited the Columbus St. location in need of mid-morning refreshment and outdoor ambiance. I was not disappointed when I ordered a berry kouign-amann and an iced hazelnut latte.
The flaky, delicate pasty was easier to eat than it was to pronounce, but I'm always up for the challenge of adding a new French word to my dictionary. The hazelnut latte was creamy and flavorful, just how I like my coffee.
If you're ever in the Bay Area and you're feeling French (even just long enough to eat a macaron), you have to check out a La Boulange location.
