Everyone in my family has polar opposite music tastes, but come December, we can all agree on listening to the same Christmas tunes. Our family has so many traditions that bring us closer during this time of year, from drinking peppermint mochas in iconic red Starbucks cups to visiting the Downtown Seattle Sheraton to see the Gingerbread Houses. December is the one month a year I let myself enjoy the cheesy, over-the-top and banal Christmas pop I grew up with. This month's Spotify playlist pays respect to holiday heavyweights like Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey as well as some unexpected pop starlets who make Christmas just a little more cute. Here is Volume Four of Musique du Mois for December 2015.
Being a 90s kid and all, I had to include holiday hits like "My Only Wish (This Year)" by Britney Spears, "Baby It's Cold Outside" by Jessica Simpson featuring Nick Lachey, "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" by *NSYNC and "This Christmas" by Christina Aguilera. When it comes to catchy Christmas music, nobody does it better than a bonafide pop star. Watching these artists perform on various Christmas TV specials with my family are some of my favorite holiday memories.
I didn't really grow out of my love of Christmas pop and found myself adding covers from Disney Channel stars to my library over the years. Tracks from Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens and Aly & AJ are guilty pleasures I couldn't help but find a place for on this playlist.
Ariana Grande has not one, but two Christmas EPs that are worth listening to on Spotify. Christmas & Chill is a brand new collection of modern holiday-themed songs from Ariana that could be played past December 31st. If you're looking for new music to stuff in someone's stocking, Kylie Minogue covers nearly every Christmas classic with feather light vocals on her latest release Kylie Christmas.
