Putting your best face forward during the fall and winter months can be difficult with blistering cold climates and dry air. After ending my summer skincare schedule, I knew it was time to look for new products to stay fresh-faced for fall.
Enter Anthony, a men's grooming brand where "nature meets science," resulting in award-winning products that even women love to borrow. I was invited to Nordstrom's flagship store in Seattle for an event hosted by the brand where shoppers could get a skin consultation and try Anthony products onsite. While browsing some of the offerings and watching men and women get pampered by Anthony associates, I had the chance to talk to CEO and founder, Tony Sosnick.
As a grooming guru with over a dozen years of experience, Tony is passionate about creating personal care products that meet the ever-changing needs of men and women. This season's new product releases are clear testaments to that passion. "It was really important to listen to what customers were asking for and then also to be innovative and try and think or anticipate what customers might be asking for," Tony said. "Our whole mantra since we started was 'nature meets science.' Everything is paraben free, allergy tested, and dermatologist tested."
Two new products Tony was particularly excited about are No Sweat Body Defense and Glycolic Exfoliating & Resurfacing Wipes (which was named a Details magazine Editor's Pick for 2015). The No Sweat Body Defense is "a moisturizer that when applied to your private area, turns into a powder," Tony said. "That powder comes from tapioca, so it absorbs perspiration and has a nice fresh scent to it so it keeps you dry, clean and fresh in that area." Meanwhile, the Glycolic Wipes are like having a facial scrub and cleanser in the form of a wipe that can easily be discarded. Their portable package is perfect to bring to the gym or the office for a quick skin refresh.
When I asked Tony about how to maintain great skin during the colder months, he recommended hydration above all else. "In the winter months, the air tends to be very dry," Tony remarked. "Drink lots of water. That's good for helping to flush toxicity out of your body and keeping your skin clear, but you also want water to keep you hydrated." He also advised coupling hydrating habits with moisturizers that contain nourishing ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter and aqua cacteen. Finally, he said to avoid using cleansers and exfoliants that are too harsh and could be over-drying.
For men that are new to the world of grooming, Tony said owning a facial cleanser or exfoliant is a great way to get started. "A facial cleanser will take away that top layer of oil, excess dead skin cells, and really help to kind of keep your skin looking fresh," Tony said. "If you don't cleanse before you shave, moisturize or tone, it's almost like putting a band-aid on a wound that isn't healed."
After the event, I was excited to add an Anthony product to my own seasonal regimen. Wake Up Call is a hydrating treatment gel with refreshing ingredients like green tea and aqua cacteen. The product is perfect for a Monday morning, helping your skin recover from a wild weekend that might have been dehydrating to say the least. I love the tingling sensation (from the product's caffeine and menthol ingredients) that energized both me and my skin. Any puffiness and inflammation disappeared, leaving my skin replenished and firm.
I love the way I feel after using an Anthony product, and not just physically. Anthony gives a portion of each sale to the fight against prostate cancer, a cause close to the founder's heart after cancer took a devastating toll on his family. "Everyone should know that when they purchase one of our products, part of those dollars goes towards making someone's life better," Tony said. Knowing that I'm saving my skin and saving people's lives by using an Anthony product makes it an all the more welcome autumnal addition to my grooming routine.
