For the past ten years, the diamond of Dior's decadent collection of fragrances has always been J'adore. Spearheaded by the stunning actress and humanitarian Charlize Theron, J'adore represents elegant rebellion, the power of being a woman and the universal longing to be desired. Whenever I see the classic commercial (featuring digital cameos from Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly) for this perfume on television, my imagination is captured every time. Charlize toke an otherwise standard fragrance ad to another glamorous level, and here she does it again with a new message aimed towards an even more fashionable future.
"The past can be beautiful, a memory, a dream, but it’s no place to live. And now it’s the time, the only way out, is up. It’s not heaven. It’s a new world. The future is gold."
- Charlize Theron
What I love about the new film is that it not only builds off the narrative that so famously carried the fragrance for years, but that it also has some substance to it. The meaningful message of living for the future is one that grates against the tired ideology that we should all live in the moment, an ideology that saturates so many experiential advertisements. J'adore, while an established fragrance, is for the woman that aspires to continually move upwards and change not only her own future, but the future of the world she lives in.
