Every once in a while, a slang word will define a generation. "Keen" defined the youth of the 20s, "Daddy-O" defined the 50s, "groovy" defined the 70s and finally, "selfie" defines us Millennials. In fact, Instagram has over 77 million photos tagged selfie to date. The Chainsmokers, a DJing duo, took advantage of this word and produced a dance track that is both incredibly hedonistic and instantly memorable.
The song is a typical party girl's spoken ramblings about going out, drinking, dealing with boys, gossiping about girls and, of course, the power of a selfie. I laughed out loud at most of the things this girl says throughout the song. I think any social media savvy millennial can relate to this party girl's monologue over an addictive beat. My favorite line is when she says "My selfie only got 10 likes in five minutes, should I take it down?" When the beat drops though, you forget what she was saying and get lost in the familiar four-on-the-floor rhythm. The music video has some great, if not random, celebrity selfie appearances. Even though the song is ridiculous, it's my new guilty pleasure. I'll definitely listen to it while taking my next selfie (which I could be taking one right as you're reading this).
