At eighteen, Bethany Mota has become a household name, especially if a teenage girl is in your household. She's influenced millennial culture not because she's an actress, model or singer, but because she creates YouTube videos on beauty, fashion and DIY projects. I fell in love with this quirky girl-next-door when my sister introduced me to Bethany's Instagram, which is sitting pretty at over two million followers. Mota's magic touch on the fashion webisphere landed her an exclusive deal with Aéropostale. I'm loving Bethany's beautiful pieces that mix together her fun-loving personality, Tumblr hipster aesthetics and California style essentials.
Here are some of my favorite pieces from part one of the Spring/Summer 2014 collection, part two (#MOREMOTA) debuts tomorrow, March 1st.
There's nothing more cute than a lace crop top for spring. I love the dip at the back meant to show off your soon-to-be summer glow. Bethany pairs it with a contrasting striped skirt that adds some visual dimension. Gold bangles and mint heels would take this piece to the next level. Note that the back and sleeves are sheer, so a skin-colored bra will work nicely.
Overalls used to be the hottest thing in the 90s (you know, that decade that's suddenly over 14 years ago) and now they're back in style. Bethany packs a punch by adding a floral crop top and white sneakers. This easy-to-wear piece with an exposed back is perfect for picnics, outdoor shopping or even working at your favorite charity. Especially during spring, I can admire pieces that are comfortable, functional and remain cute.
If you're looking for a go-to bold dress, this striped one fits the bill. Subtle pleating at this dress' waist add feminine volume. She accessorized with a long statement necklace and some platform wedges. Keeping with a black and white color scheme keeps this dress in the evening wear category. A simple change up for a casual day would be switching the heels with booties, a pastel jacket and tossing your hair into a loose ponytail.
If there's one thing you'll need for spring, it's at least one pastel-colored piece. This periwinkle moto jacket has the standard edginess you'd expect, but has a flirty fringed twist. The frayed edges and ruffles on the back soften the jacket's rocker vibe. You can pair it with a graphic tee and jeans or even the dress mentioned above. This has to be my favorite item from the Bethany Mota collection because it hits a major trend, yet remains in her unique style trademark.
Don't forget to view all the new items (like the ones to your right) being added to her Aéropostale collection on March 1st! If you buy something, be sure to tag it with #bethanymotacollection on Instagram. I know my sister will be all over that!
