I love beginning a new year with an amazing outfit. January is one of my favorite months because I always feel hopeful of the change and opportunities that will occur throughout the entire year. Over winter break, I've been collecting pieces to center around one quintessential item I bought at Barneys in New York City: a Marc by Marc Jacobs sweater.
Picking out this designer sweater was a fashion milestone for me. I've never bought designer clothes with my own hard-earned money before. This piece means so much more to me because of the experience that came with it: I bought a beautiful sweater at the original Barneys New York while on vacation (#JoeGoodingTakesNewYork). I spent over an hour in the luxury store examining the beautiful clothes I had seen only in magazines, commercials and runway shows I've watched on the internet. I was basically in style heaven.
I finally chose Marc Jacobs because his designs really reflect my own personality and style well. Sure the sweater fits the 2014 animal print trend (one that's been going for a few seasons now), but it also embodies my youthful elegance. I love textures, I love patterns, but I love them to be simple, understated and fresh. This leopard print is not flashy or gaudy, instead it's sophisticated and clean. I wanted something that could be dressed up or down depending on the occasion, and this fits the bill.
You can't just pair Marc Jacobs with anything (especially not my soon-to-be-incinerated collection of faded Hollister Co. jeans from high school). However, ZARA is a worthy brand to compliment the piece. These ZARA coated super skinny jeans fit like a second skin. Coated denim is another hot trend I adore for spring 2014. The metallic sheen of these jeans make them ideal for more subdued tops. My shoes are Dexter, an American classic brand since 1957 that's available at the far less pretentious Payless ShoeSource. The leather and construction of this footwear is durable and comfortable. I protected my sweater with a black Forever 21 jacket. This hits yet another 2014 trend: leather. I love the patches of leather at the inner elbows and across my shoulders. This jacket has such a New York quality to it that I can't describe. It's just something you would see men wearing to work in the city.
You only look as good as you smell, so spritzing a little Bleu de CHANEL that I got for Christmas added a fragrant touch to this ensemble. This CHANEL cologne is an aromatic blend of woods and citrus. Like any CHANEL design, it's clean but makes a statement.
