Yes, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York ended just over a week ago, but that doesn't mean us stylish folk are done talking about it.
Although I wish I was cool and important enough to have a seat at one of these awesome shows, #NYFW has been made available to the public via the internet. Between classes and work I rationed time to watch the runway shows and scroll through the gorgeous garments. The experience had me feeling like I was actually there, although if I was actually there I probably would've had a fashion-induced fever. Below are some of my Spring/Summer 2014 favorites from the entire week.
I love the structure of this outfit, especially from that leather jacket. The color palette in the pieces underneath is absolutely gorgeous, and that hue of blue repeated throughout is amazing.
Caroline is known for her impeccable gowns, and this season's show was no exception. The architectural design of this dress is effortless and beautiful. The brown band across the collarbone serves almost as statement jewelry. The fit of the rest of the dress looks amazing in white. The subtle folding of the fabric in the arms near the band makes this dress so unique.
I love seeing a new designer make their debut at fashion week. Fashion Shenzhen is a trendy brand whose home base is Shenzhen, China. I used to not understand the beauty behind boxy, formless clothes. But this color-blocked dress makes me think otherwise. This is the look of the modern woman.
This designer is responsible for some of Taylor Swift's hottest red carpet looks. It's easy to see the celebrity appeal of these designs. I'm in love with the layers of textures on patterns on this dress. The sporty fit from the waist up contrasts perfectly with the ruched silky white fabric.
Have I told you how much I love J.Crew? I really freaking love J.Crew. The classic brand added a much needed dose of men's fashion to #NYFW. The use of denim was a big influence of this collection. Note that those jeans fit so well, they look like slacks. I love the nautical feel of the sweater and the blue on blue on blue.
While a lot of designers were pushing for sleek, contemporary or edgy, Jenny's show was blissfully romantic. This dress looks like liquid diamonds and something you'd find out of a modernized Great Gatsby dream. The emphasis here is all on that metallic layer of fabric over that rich periwinkle blue.
If you couldn't tell already, this shade of blue is really making a wave on the Spring/Summer 2014 runway. I'm really digging the lighter blue outline that compliments the main shade even more. I can already predict a lot of mainstream brands will mimic this design since it's so accessible (yet still chic) for guys to wear.
Nautica's "Black Sail" collection was nothing like their usual department store offerings. I love the construction of the steel blue pants, they are fitted yet scrunchy and masculine at the same time. I think it's important to keep the pants looking masculine when they are cut at such a high length. The simple sweater adds coziness to the look. If this doesn't epitomize spring break at the Hamptons I don't know what does.
Leather is a fabric trend that just won't die, and I'm definitely not complaining. I've never seen it used in such a unique way with this model. The shirt is a cross between a tunic and a button down. The shorts are so forward thinking, especially with the emerald crimson (verging on Christmas colors) combination. I'm definitely getting a nineties vibe from this collection, and in a good way of course.
This brand may have become my new fashion obsession. The whole collection is clean and edgy. Oh and the models are ... good looking. This shade of rust will be really big this Spring/Summer. While the letter-man jacket is popular for fall, track jackets are the spring transition piece.
While Vera is famous for bridal wear, her runway show was really inspiring. I loved how all the models have their hair completely covered up, nude shoes and their makeup is virtually nonexistent. This left the focus all on the avant-garde gowns. This garment's construction is flowy and effervescent, yet the color is immediately striking. Time will tell if any celebrities rock this on the red carpet or if it stays molded to models.
I'm looking forward to watching more fashion weeks in the future. Make sure to check out Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week website for more photos, videos and interactive media on fashion's biggest event.
