Clap your hands because Lady GaGa is finally back! This week's tuesday track is "Applause" by Ms. Germanotta.
As with any Lady GaGa track, you can expect a crazy, non-pop-conformist sound from her. Two and half years after releasing Born This Way, she roared back to life (maybe not quite as loud as Katy Perry who is currently nudging her out of the number-one single spot) with an exciting, grungy electro-pop song.
With sharp stabbing synths, the first listen is almost kind of scary. But once that superstar chorus kicks in, you can't help but meet GaGa's demands of adoration. The lyrics are no surprise coming from GaGa, always one to criticize fame and crave it all the same time in an overdramatic fashion.
The music video is nothing short of strange, which finds the songstress taking on every role as an entertainer: goose, puppet, Venus, winged freak. It's an homage to all her past work, and with any other song it would seem cheesy, but with "Applause" it works.
Her soaring unique vocals and melodic layering over the bleeps and bloops of an instrumental make this song a thrilling roller coaster ride. If ARTPOP is going to be a continuation of this, I will gladly give her a standing ovation.
