The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premieres this Friday and I am beyond excited. Being a fan of all the books and the last movie, it only seemed natural to pick my favorite song off the new soundtrack for my Tuesday track of the week.
"Atlas" by Coldplay is a beautiful track highlighted by a gloomy piano, orchestral strings and post-apocalyptic drums. Technically it's nothing new from Coldplay (especially if you're a big fan like me), but the song has a more cinematic feel to it. The lyrics are well-written and simple all at the same time: "Caught in the fire, say oh. We're about to explode."
Songs from blockbuster-budget films always have a grandeur to them that takes an artist's signature sound to a new level. Just listen to "Young & Beautiful" by Lana Del Rey for The Great Gatsby, or "Skyfall" by Adele for the James Bond movie of the same name. "Atlas" by Coldplay is no different. The tone and emotion of the song match The Hunger Games perfectly.
I love the lyric video for "Atlas" because of its stunning visuals. Listening to the song while watching the video adds to the whole experience. I'm looking forward to seeing how (or if) this song plays into the movie on Friday.
